Link update:
AFRICAN NEWS: two good places to stop, each with its own agenda. is apparently run by exiled Zimbabweans who hae an (understandable) ax to grind with their current Hitler-mustache-sporting president.
IRIN News is affiliated with the UN. Well written big-picture stuff.
AFRICAN BLOGS:
This link list continues to fluctuate. Most of them are politically slanted, though I'm certainly not linking to anyone because I support them. The links that stick around will do so because they consistently offer the kind of straightforward contention that you can only get in blogs.
Head Heeb is a smart guy, and Africans.co.za is just entertaining scatological crap. The rest are just straight bloggers who care about the news and here to argue about it.
AMERICAN BLOGS: These I know a lot about. I have wasted days of my life reading them. They are people who have done an admirable job of making their own fun.
Lileks: everyone in this category knows how to write. Lileks can write.
Rebecky: the only other blogger I've actually met. She is the girlfriend of a friend of a friend's husband. We're like this.
Scalzi, Layne, and Welch all fall under the category of "If the blog is any indication, probably an exceptional guy to have a beer with." That may be because they write the way people talk. All three are freelance writers of medium success, and Layne and Welch are in a band that certainly sounds like it would rock your grandmother's chapped ass.
Cagan: Just started reading him. Apparently he had an animated show on MTV, so I'm tempted to not link to him out of professional jealousy. 'Cept he be funny.
Now I work again.
A daddy blog.
