I love me some sentimental obituaries, particularly the "it might have been" variety. When I was just getting started at Newsweek, I made a bit of an ass of myself strenuously arguing that we should do a decent obituary Morton Downey Jr., the original screaming Foxhost. (My argument: he was half Renaissance man and half bullshite artist, as evidenced by the fact that the AP printed his claim that he wrote "Wipeout". There was a lot of brainpower behind all that screaming and nicotined finger jabbing. Their argument: We're Newsweek.)
Anyway, having taken a two week hiatus from the blog to focus on the book that's been hanging over my neck for a year, and having returned from said hiatus with the damned book bleeding but still unslain, I was inspired to read about Mitch Hedberg's woulda coulda shoulda obit.
(Inspired in the "well eff that stuff" kind of way, of course.)
A daddy blog.
