Ford plans to eliminate 30,000 jobs in all.Logical. More logical than most of us are when presented with an unfriendly reality.
Some high-seniority workers may transfer to other Ford plants, including its Sharonville operation. The Sharonville plant, which employs 1,900, was not on Ford's list of 14 plants set to close by 2012. But jobs there could be lost if senior Batavia workers transfer there and bump junior workers.
That was little comfort to workers leaving the Batavia plant Monday as their shift ended.
"I don't have enough time to have bumping rights," said Scott Overstake, 29, who lives in Highland County and has worked at Batavia for six years. "I don't know what I'll do. I hope I'll find something. Right now, my plans are to get a beer."
