The mighty Fark points to the news that the Steelers are soliciting names for their god-awful new mascot. And I'm happy to report that he looks like nothing so much as Ernie's idealized vision of Bert.
After a mediocre Cincinnati draft, this Pittsburgh embarrassment just makes me happy. True, the Bengals have a person in a felt costume ('Who Dey') who's stupid looking enough. But our mascot is an animal: Its cutesification was inevitable.
The Stillers, on the other hand, have successfully built a brand around simplicity. And until now, they did a pretty good job of stopping the marketing twits from messing that up. But now they're behind Dallas, Washington and Oakland in the 'Let's Dress Like the Village People' Draft. Love it.
